El Pretérito de los Verbos sin Cambio de Raíz 

The Preterit Tense of Verbs with No Stem Change
     
 

 Los verbos que cambian de raíz,  y que terminan en -ar o en -er,  no cambian su raíz en el pretérito.

Stem-Changing Verbs ending in -ar and -er have no stem change in the preterit tense.

1. ¿(Perder) ................ tú el bisturí?   
Did you lose the scalpel?

Sí, yo . . . . . . el bisturí. 
 Yes, I lost the scalpel.

¿Y la enfermera? 
And the nurse?

La enfermera también . . . . . . . el bisturí .
The nurse also lost the scalpel.

2. ¿(Probar) .................. tú el nuevo jarabe  para el catarro? 
Did you try the new cold syrup? 

Sí, yo . . . . . . . . el nuevo jarabe. ¿Y ustedes?
Yes, I tried the new syrup.  And you? 

Nosotros también . . . .  . . .el nuevo jarabe . 

We  also tried the new syrup.

3. ¿(Volver) .................. tú a recetar la misma medicina? 
Did you prescribe the same medicine?

Sí , yo . . . . . . a recetar la misma medicina ¿Y el otro doctor? 
Yes, I prescribed the same medicine.  And the other doctor?

El también . . . . . . . . . a recetar la misma medicina.
He also prescribed the same medicine.

4. ¿(Cerrar) ................. tú la puerta de la sala de emergencia? 
Did you close the emergency room door?

Sí, yo . . . . . . .la puerta de la sala de emergencia. ¿Y los otros pacientes? 
Yes, I closed the emergency room door. And the other patients?  

Ellos también . . . . . . . . . la puerta de la sala  de emergencia.
They also closed the emergency room door.

5. ¿(Volver) Te  ..............   el mismo dolor punzante?
Did the same sharp pain return?

Sí, me (volver) . . . . . . . . . . el mismo  dolor punzante. ¿Y a José?
Yes, the same sharp pain returned. And to Jose?

A él  también le . . . . . . . . . . . el dolor. 
It also returned to him.

 

A. Cambie al pretérito

1.  Anteanoche, Miguel (perder )  .............. sus llaves en el hospital.  
The night before yesterday, Miguel  lost his keys at the hospital.

2.  Esta mañana, el cirujano (volver) .............  a la sala de cirugía  y (probar) .............. los equipos.

This morning, the surgeon returned to the surgery room, and tested the surgery equipment. 
 

3.  Anoche, el doctor Ramírez (soñar) ..............  con  la enfermera.

Last night, doctor Ramirez dreamed with the nurse.

4.  El año pasado, la enfermera  (temblar) ............... de miedo durante el terremoto.  
Last year, the nurse was shaking of fear during the earthquake.

5.  El técnico  (negar) .................  que trabajaba en el hospital  los fines de semana.   
The technician denied he worked at the hospital on weekends.
6.  Ayer, el profesor de química (resolver) .................. el problema.
Yesterday, the chemistry teacher solved the problem.
